The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upwBj嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-wBj嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spacewBj嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.wBj嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves thewBj嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedwBj嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionwBj嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentwBj嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-wBj嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep thewBj嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitwBj嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentwBj嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForwBj嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,wBj嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),wBj嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-wBj嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to bewBj嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputwBj嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-wBj嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorwBj嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-wBj嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers awBj嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-wBj嘉泰姆

the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampswBj嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reacheswBj嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-wBj嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofwBj嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-wBj嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current towBj嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofwBj嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropswBj嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withwBj嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getswBj嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. wBj嘉泰姆
Start-UpwBj嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.wBj嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpswBj嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reacheswBj嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostswBj嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.wBj嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationwBj嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needwBj嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andwBj嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelwBj嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.wBj嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improveswBj嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.wBj嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. wBj嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionwBj嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-wBj嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-wBj嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerwBj嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-wBj嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andwBj嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-wBj嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CwBj嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-wBj嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.wBj嘉泰姆
